Enemy Pie

“Enemy Pie” by Derek Munson, and illustrated by Tara Calahan is about a young boy, who has a enemy named Jeremy Ross. He hated Jeremy. Jeremy just moved onto the boy’s street, and the boy hated him. He didn’t get invited to his trampoline party, but his best friend, Stanley, did. He didn’t want him to come to his tree house, and he had an enemy list on there. Jeremy was his worst, and only enemy. He talked to his dad about Jeremy, and his dad told him about enemy pie. You give it to your enemy, and your enemy will be gone. The boy thought this was a great idea. And he wondered what to put in it. Worms, rocks, chewed up gum, but is dad said it was so secret even he couldn’t tell his own son what was in it. Later, the boy came back from playing outside, with his boomerang, that did not come back to him, and he smelt a heavenly smell. It smelt like normal pie. He complained and said, this enemy pie is supposed to smell bad! His dad said, if the pie smelt bad, then the enemy would not want to eat it. The boy could tell his dad has made enemy pie before. But his dad also needed to tell him something. He had to be nice to his enemy for a day. The boy was confused, but he followed his dad’s instructions. He went to Jeremy’s house, and he asked him if he wanted to play. Jeremy was confused, but he went to go ask his mom. He came out, with his shoes, and he went to play at  the boys house. They played on Jeremy’s trampoline, and they shot baskets at the boy’s house. They also threw water balloons at the girls, but missed. Jeremy even taught him how to throw a boomerang!  The boy was starting to doubt himself, and not give the enemy pie to Jeremy. Then they went up to the boy’s tree house. He doesn’t let anybody in, not even his dad. But as much as he didn’t want Jeremy to go to his tree house, he had to let him. They played checkers, until it was time for dinner. His dad made mac and cheese, their favorites! Then his dad cut thick slices of enemy pie onto three plates. Just before Jeremy put the pie in his mouth, the boy shouted, “DON’T EAT THE PIE, IT’S POISONOUS!” The boy just saved Jeremy’s life, which is what he thinks. But then they stared at his dad, so surprised, digging into the pie. They happily ate the pie, and the boy’s dad was right. His enemy was gone, now he was his friend. I think this is such a good book, for little kids, and I think this is a really funny book, and I would recommend it  to any kid who wants to laugh. All in all this was a good book, and I would recommend it.
